God's Free Gift For You
We have bad news and Good News!
Let’s start with the bad news first. According to Romans 3:23, we are all sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” The word sin is defined in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary as “transgression of the law of God.” Basically, sin is any willful thought, attitude, or action against God. Since the fall of man in the book of Genesis, every man has been born with a sin nature. The curse of sin has been passed down from generation to generation. We didn’t have to be taught to tell a lie, disobey, or prefer our own way over God’s; sin came naturally to us.
So, why is this bad news? Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages (or payment) for our sins is death. Unfortunately, the mass of sin is very heavy. There are no good works, words, or deeds that could ever outweigh the debt that our sin places on our account. No amount of money can ever erase the balance of our bill of sin. The only payment accepted for sin is death.
Death, however, is not a means to an end. Death, when paying for sin, means that we are doomed to eternal life in the lake of fire, known as Hell. It means eternal separation from God and His presence. Luke 13:28 tells us that in Hell there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” It is a place of torment forevermore.
Are you ready to hear the Good News yet? I thought so!
While you were still a sinner, someone came along and paid your debt (Romans 5:8)! It’s PAID IN FULL! Whew, what a relief! But hold on; don’t stop reading just yet.
You see, God loved you so much that over 2000 years ago, He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to the Earth as a man to pay the debt that you could never repay (John 3:16). In His 33 years on Earth, He lived a perfect, sinless life. That’s something that no other man can boast. Because He was without spot or blemish, He became the sacrifice of sin for you and for me. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Jesus Christ was accused of sins He never committed and was nailed to a cross as the punishment for those sins. The heavy weight of those sins was placed on His shoulders as He bore nails in His hands and His feet and hung there adorned with a crown of thorns. As He hung His head in death, the price was paid (See John 19). That day He was buried, but He wasn’t there to stay! On the third day, Jesus rose again to live just as He said, victorious over death and the grave!
But wait! There’s more Good News! The gift of salvation that Jesus gave to you on the cross is FREE! It is at absolutely no cost to you. All you have to do is believe.
Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
There are no magic formulas or fancy words that must be said for you to receive the free gift of salvation. Repeating a certain prayer, signing a card, or joining a church does not confirm salvation.
John 6:47 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” That is a promise from Jesus Himself, and you can put your faith in His Word because it has been proven since the foundation of the world.
Salvation is this: looking at your sin and recognizing that you can never pay the debt of your sin on your on. It is realizing that you are in need of a Savior, and that Savior is Jesus Christ. Salvation is believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He died, was buried, and rose again to save you from the punishment that you deserve. All He wants from you is confession. The word confession means to admit publicly or to openly acknowledge your need for Him, and that He is Lord of your life.
Have you acknowledged your sin, today? Do you put your faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ that paid the payment for your sin? Will you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord of your life?
