Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

From my heart, I want to share with you from It is Finished, a book I wrote many years ago that deals with the spiritual condition we have as a child of God.

When we are in the spiritual condition we’ve become a new creature through salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ. We have a new nature and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When in this condition we hunger for and desire Him. We are faithful, content, and, most of all, saved.

This condition should be one of absolute trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in every area of our lives. In the spiritual condition, we should seek to know Him in a very intimate way. This is the most rewarding condition to be in, for in it we are steadily growing in the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus Christ.

To become spiritually minded comes by faith in our risen Savior, who provided a way to righteousness for us by bearing our sins on the cross. Pleasing God should be our first priority in life.  Hungering and thirsting after righteousness produces a spiritually-minded condition. It is then that God sees our desire to know Him, and the more we come to know about God, the more we fall in love with Him.

Romans 6:11-13 says, “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” Our spiritual condition can prosper and flourish if we yield ourselves to God and let Him accomplish the work in us without fear of constantly sinning.

If we do not know the truth, purpose, and plan of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, we can easily be caught up in the spirit of bondage that the law puts us under once again. A spirit of bondage prevents the fruit of the Spirit from being seen in our lives. A spirit of bondage is anything that makes us worry, have fear, or feel trapped. It could be anything from finances to how we have lived in the past, wrongs we have committed, or the good we could have done but didn’t.

From my heart to yours, I pray that you will set all of your fleshly desires aside and study the Word of God. Lay aside anything that puts you in a spirit of bondage and allow the world to see the fruit of the Spirit in your daily life as you hunger and thirst  for righteousness and put God first in all things.
