From The Heart
Sleepless Nights, Uncertain Days
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: Psalm 17:6
I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
Friends in Christ,
Sleepless nights and uncertain days are plaguing every individual, family, church, business, and community. Fear is controlling our minds and gripping our hearts with emotions that satan and our flesh feed off of.
My heart breaks as I listen to and pray with those who share their fears and the effect the economy has had on them. I hurt inside for them as I, too, relate with them. Our ministry and my personal finances have been affected as well. Everyone is hurting in some area of their life. The rich and poor all face uncertain days and sleepless nights due to some fear or fact.
With all my heart, I pray for all of us to let these things turn us to God. Psalm 17:1-3 says, “Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips. Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.”
This Psalm is a prayer of David as he was gripped with the fear and facts of his life. Notice however, in verse three he says, “Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night…”
God knows our every need. He visits us in our sleepless nights. He is our power to face and get through the uncertain days. David knew that God knew his heart. It is revealed throughout the verses of Psalm 17.
We can find great comfort and peace in our own lives if we make sure that we are following David’s sincere intentions in receiving help and comfort from God.
Verse 3 of Psalm 17 reveals no evil or transgressions were active. Verse 4 reveals his words were in line with God’s Word. And verse 5 reveals his dependence upon God’s power that He doesn’t slip.
In verse 6 of Psalm 17, David reveals the confidence he had in God. He says, “I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.”
In every uncertainty, fear, and adversity, let us call upon God who hears, who knows, and who helps. Psalm 17:8 says, “Keep me as the apple of thy eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.”
Friends, this is the God we must go to with our fears and facts. He will hide you under the shadow of His wings. He will bind your enemies from about your mind and He will grip your heart with the truths of His Word and His unconditional love.
From my heart to yours I pray that you will cry out to God in your sleepless nights and uncertain days. God loves you and I love you.
