Realizing Your Potential

“Our expectations of others are often beyond what they are willing to do. We see their potential, but they are anxious for the day and the evil thereof. God sees our potential, but He also knows our priorities and when He is not at the top of that list. What is the answer? Can we change them? No! Our responsibility is to keep ourselves right with God while we pray they may see in themselves what God sees in them."

I posted this as my status on Facebook a few days ago. The response to this post through my inbox and texts was incredible. I would like to share the experiences that resulted in this post with all of you who may not use Facebook.

I had worked eight days straight with my family in our usual ministry work. I then worked as keynote speaker for an assisted living summit for four days. I was amazed at the lack of potential the women at the summit saw in themselves. However, God showed me their potential and began revealing it to those ladies as the summit progressed. It was a blessing to watch God unfold their potential that He saw in them.  By the end of the summit these people left with stamina and purpose.

After working so many days in a row, I spent a few days resting and enjoying a little quiet time with my sisters and their families at the lake. We were all sitting around talking about the good times, past and present. There was a particular friend there who I knew loved the Lord. I saw so much potential in her for the glory of the Lord and the good of others. She began to share how she once had an effect on the younger girls and now she longs for that back. I remembered those days! She would glow with the love of Jesus and she hungered to draw people, especially young girls, to the Lord. She looked at me and said, “Brenda, I have lost what I once had with God.”

My heart could clearly see her potential and that it was still within her. Her present circumstances and insecurities had destroyed her willingness to move forward in her effective service for the Lord. Her anxiousness and cares of life had stolen the confidence that God saw something in her that she could not believe for herself.

Many of us suffer from this same crippling problem. Moses suffered from it as well. He told God that he was not a man of eloquent speech. He had one excuse after another as to why he was not the one to lead God’s people out of Egypt. For every excuse Moses gave, God had a remedy. For every insecurity Moses battled, God give him assurance that He would be with him and would provide everything he needed for the task. God saw Moses' potential. Moses could only focus on his low self esteem and the hurdles that would be before him.

We must not allow our unwillingness or our present circumstances to hinder us from being all that God sees we can be for Him. We must step up to the call and see the potential that God sees in us. We must be willing to set our priorities with God at the top.

I wanted so badly to push this friend into a state of willingness, but God spoke to me and said, “This is a work that only I can do in your friend.” Regardless of the potential we see in a person, when we allow God to work in the lives of those we love, we will see effectiveness, passion and purpose in their lives. Like Moses, we will have our doubts and insecurities but God sees the potential He created in us at birth.

From my heart to yours, take the plunge and allow God to show you the potential He sees in you. Pursue that potential and become effective and satisfied in your relationship with the Lord.

I Just Love jesus,

Mrs.Brenda, I have always struggled with this issue. I have never felt good enough for God to use. God has used that weakness in my life to help me in so many ways because I've learned that if he allows me to do anything for him it is him who gives me the strength! God has taught me to do things and gave me the courage to do things I thought I would never do!!! HE IS SO PRECIOUS & WONDERFUL!!! I love you & appreciate the words of encouragement!

We are all in a "position" to be used of God. Ex. 4:2 God asked Moses what he had in his hand. We know it was only a rod, and we know how God used Moses, and his rod to lead the Children of Isreal out of Egyptian bondage. What is your "position"? It has been my special joy to develop the Assisted Living Summit for these last two years. I have seen God move in the lives of my employees who chose to attend. I have seen God set many of them free of the bondage they have found themselves in. God will use us in whatever "position" we are in and with whatever is in our hand, to be his instrument of deliverance to those in bondage. Remember, from Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to God be the glory. Thank you Brenda for teaching while you were under attack-She gave birth to two kidney stones on Monday. We just love Jesus ! ! !
