Scripture Reading: Proverbs 4:23

In the day and time we live in, our hearts are distant and our minds are distracted. We are living in a time where many are stressed from culture shock and liberalism. It seems that many born-again believers are confused about what to believe and which god to serve. Our hearts are palpitating from the plaque buildup of religion because we are afraid to allow righteousness to cleanse and correct the rhythm of our lives.

As children of God, we have a responsibility to keep our hearts guarded from false gods and ready to demonstrate righteousness. As we pray for God to lead us and help us, we must plead for God to “ready our hearts.” A ready heart is one that is attentive at all times to the voice and instruction of the one and only true God, the God who created Heaven and Earth and all of creation, the only God who gave His Son so that our hearts could be redeemed into a relationship and intimacy with God the Father that had been separated by sin.

Proverbs 4:23-27 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.” These Scriptures are the voice and instruction of God for someone whose heart is ready for the Lord to use them. If we live according to these verses, our heart will not be persuaded by culture shock, liberalism, or religion. There will be no confusion about right from wrong, conscience or conviction. Our heart will be so in sync with God’s heart that we will feel Him flutter from within. When you seem to be leaning to the left or right, God will be faithful to ready or keep you in confusing and uncertain times.

From my heart to yours, I encourage you to pray “Ready my heart, Lord, that it may be in tune with yours, for out of it are the issues of life.”

Love this. As I read this, I started thinking I want a 'ready' heart ALL the time~not just when I am facing trials. The Bible said to “Keep thy heart with all diligence.” I looked up the word diligence and it means a persevering application; the attention and care legally expected or required of a person (as a party to a contract). We as Christians are expected to guard our hearts from the things of this world and from unrighteousness all the times. The devil is going to throw everything he can our way to hinder us, deceive us, and get us down. Those are the times when we have to persevere and guard our hearts anyway! I want to strive to keep my heart like His so the issues that come out of my heart are good, righteous, and Christ-like. Oh, how people need to see the ‘ready’ hearts of His people in the day we live in with so much legalism, liberalism, and devilism. I pray my heart will be a ‘ready’ heart, listening and heeding to His voice and a light shining out for all to see.
