From The Heart
The Obedience of Christ
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Obedience to God is not a choice; it is a command. Our scripture text exhorts us to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. How do we do that?
Obedience requires a rejection of our fleshly thoughts and imaginations. In other words, we are given a charge in this verse to cast down our thoughts and illuminations of earthly pleasures and the things that deceive us of God’s knowledge. The thoughts and illuminations exalt themselves to a point of a turning away from what is pleasing to God. What thought or “high” thing has your focus on God distracted? What is illuminating your mind and your flesh that hinders you from the knowledge of God?
Whatever we allow to capture our attention and control our behavior is the very thing that will control our level of obedience to Christ. If we walk in the Spirit, then we will find ourselves God’s captive audience. If we are walking and warring in the flesh, we will find ourselves seized by the world and our own thoughts and desires.
From my heart to yours, I ask that you will study our scripture text in depth. I pray that you will commit yourself to the obedience of Christ. It is there that you will find peace in your times of turmoil, calm in the storm, victory in your battle, and joy in your heart. Obedience to Christ empowers us with a passion to live 2 Corinthians 10:5 which says, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
Give God all of your thoughts and every high thing that controls your life. In doing so, you will find rest.
