Scripture Reading: Psalm 34:9

"O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him."

The passage of Scripture in Psalm 34:9 teaches us that the fear of the Lord means to reverence God as authoritative and ruler of our lives. We must all get back to living with a literal fear of God in our hearts. We as Christians have grown so complacent with who we are and what we have and want that even our sins do not affect us inwardly.

The first “fear” in this verse means to be afraid, to stand in awe. The second “fear” in the passage means to exceedingly reverence, both morally and spiritually. How long has it been since you have experienced the fear of God because of wrong behavior? How long has it been since you have reverenced Him with a heart of praise and thanksgiving for His grace and mercy upon your life?

It is so easy for us to get distracted with daily menial tasks and our problems that we fail to see God. We allow the fears of this life to overtake us and we dismiss the fear of God. We must take a step back and realize who provides our every need, who forgives our sin, who loves us unconditionally, and who gave His life so that we can have peace and joy in the most difficult times.

Our Scripture says, “O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.” The final statement in verse 9 says, “… there is no want to them that fear him.” The word want means deficiency, impoverishment, lack or need. Oh my, what a promise we are given!

From my heart to yours, I pray that we all get back to the fear of God for our lives. God is calling us all to acknowledge Him as our all sufficient Father. Fearing Him will bring conviction upon our hearts. It will make us mindful of His presence and it will bring us to a state of prayer and repentance. Remember, there is no want to them that fear him.
