From The Heart
Made Worthy
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-15
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
As I study this passage of Scripture I am reminded of my life before I totally surrendered to Christ. It was very much like Paul describes it here. This reveals who and what he was before his conversion. He was a blasphemer (against God and Christians). He was a persecutor (both verbally and physically). He goes on to call himself injurious. This means he was insulting. As Paul confesses his nature here we can all agree that only the mercy of God and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ could have transformed this man.
As I think back on my own life I realize I was just as blasphemous, persecuting and injurious as Paul was. However, I too like Paul can resound the victory of deliverance because God’s grace and love was extended to me through the faith and love of Jesus Christ.
It humbles me to see where God has brought me from to where I am today. Like Paul I have been born again and made worthy through the work of Jesus Christ. In verse 15 it says, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” Until we receive Christ as our personal Savior we will always feel as though we are the “chief” of sinners.
Satan will use everything you have done wrong to make you feel too unworthy of Christ’s unconditional love for you. The saved will constantly live in warfare if they do not totally surrender their lives to God. The saved are under greater attack because satan wants to toy with your thinking. The lost are already totally deceived by satan and the world.
Feeling unworthy for the body of believers will do one of two things. It will put you in sin because you will use your past sin and failures as an excuse not to serve God. Or, it will humble you and give you a new desire to use it for a testimony to the glory of God. The latter is where God can use your unworthy feelings.
From my heart to yours, I plead with you to allow your past to draw you nigh to God. Like Paul, let us all say with boldness and humility… “that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.” God will use you just as He did Paul. Forgive yourself and confess your unworthy feelings to God. Your thinking will change and God will be glorified through you. The grace of God is exceeding abundant in your life. Live, my friend, in the love of Christ because through His blood you are made worthy.
