The Work of the Spirit
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: Philippians 1:6
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Key Thought: “Until we can know and recognize His importance in our lives, our eternal position remains intact, but our power is limited for use because of our lack of knowledge of the third person of God.”
Key Points:
- God intends for all good works to be successful and completed according to His will, plan, and purpose for our lives.
- The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, our Comforter, and the Source of our strength.
- The Holy Spirit is a Person (always to be referred to as He, not It).
We have learned of the good work that Christ has begun in us through salvation. That work is carried out in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. God intends for all good works to be successful and completed according to His will, plan, and purpose for our lives. Therefore, God sent His Holy Spirit to be our Teacher, our Comforter, and our Source of strength.
As our Teacher, the Holy Spirit’s work is defined in John 14:26. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” The Holy Spirit also reveals unto us the things of Christ. John 16:15 says, “All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.”
As our Comforter, the Holy Spirit is our constant Companion, who reproves us of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8-11). John 14:16-18 shows us the Spirit’s constant Presence in our lives. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

Brenda, I have learned so much in just a few weeks....my relationship with God is growing more each day....instead of coming home from work and watching tv...I am spending it in prayer and studying the word of God.....it amazes how he prepares us to face our past and how he puts us right where we need to be to gain strenghth from others and for the first time I feel as if he has put that "Hedge of Protection" around me.......I have never felt so much peace and comforting as I do from the Holy Spirit now........ Although I know I will still have bad days.....but I also understand now why it is still so important to praise him even when you are in the valley's and pits....... I grew up not really understanding what love, comfort and protection was...when those that are suppose to love and protect you are the same ones that hurt and destroy your spirit at such a young age.......it was hard because I never knew if anyone was loving me for the right or wrong reasons..... I am working the madeover series.....there are some scriptures that i don't understand but I am praying for God to reveal to me just what I need to get from them.... I can not tell you how much God revealed to me at the conference about myself and how I can, will and am going to be able to deal with my past and how I it will be done to Glorify Him.....I know there are so many women out there that were brought up in the same abusive enviroment as I was....and how they feel as if they have no voice, they are made up of brokeness and sadness.....But I pray that if one day just one person is helped and saved from me sharing my story with them....then are those years of pain will be worth it..... The cruise was amazing.....it was as if God just gave me a rest and put me in a complete state of peace........I felt his arms wrapped around me......... I am feel so blessed have been able to spend alittle time with ya'll....Ya'll are alway so Loving, and caring even when I know you don't feel good......I am praying for ya'll daily.......I just wanted you to know that I am healing and I am learning about more and more about myself and my relationship with my Heavenly Father......... I love ya'll sooo much, God is Great! Trisha
