The Violent Force
by Labron Cason
Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:12
“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.”
As John was beheaded, I can assure you, based on the grace of God and John’s faith in Jesus Christ, that before his jugular vein stopped wiggling, John woke up in the presence of the One whom he praised and loved. John was God’s man, he was anointed, he was filled and he was in touch with the power of God.
Job is another one of God’s men came to mind as I was reading about John being beheaded. We know that Job said, “…when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10). He also said, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God (Job 19:25-26). Job knew he was saved, and right with God. He knew he would be in Heaven someday. Job knew that God would take all wrong things and make them right. Like John the Baptist, Job suffered an immediate force of violence. Within a 24 hour period, Job lost everything.
I have learned not to get caught up in material things because I can lose them quickly. All of us are only one phone call away from an immediate force of violence in our lives and the deepest darkest valley. I want to remind you that when you read about Job, you are not reading about a drunkard or an adulterous man. You are reading about a man the Bible says loved and feared God and eschewed evil. He taught his children how to worship God. He was the priest of his family. He was a righteous man living in an unrighteous world.
We must prepare our hearts to the fact that someday, if not already, we could be a victim of this same force of violence. Do you know that your Redeemer lives?
