Scripture Reading: I John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The last spiritual indicator we covered was ‘Increasing or Decreasing?’ Today’s indicator lies in true repentance. When we start recognizing our sins and faults and are willing to deal with them immediately, we have true repentance.

When we get serious about God, we will want to take care of the sins and faults of our life. We will want Him to work on us to make us a vessel that He can use. Sin automatically hinders fellowship with God. When we turn to God, we turn from something. This is true repentance.  It is found in confessing our sin to God. We find in our Scripture text that repentance is a choice, and it is conditional. It says if we confess our sin. This statement puts us under a responsibility to admit we have sin.

Confession does not mean to ask forgiveness. It demands admission of who we are and the sin we are committing. The hard part is recognizing where we are and admitting we need help from the Lord. When we do this, then true repentance is demonstrated. We are overcomers if we are willing to confess our sin. We will immediately have our fellowship with God restored.

Knowing God is religion; believing Him is Christianity. If we want true repentance, we must turn to and believe Him. True repentance will turn our thoughts back to Him in the morning, throughout the day and in the evenings.

We must start recognizing our sin and faults and become willing to deal with them.
