True Love
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: 1 John 4:7-8
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
Love has lost its meaning in this modern world. We need to remind ourselves of the definition of true love. Where did our parents and grandparents get their definition of love? The pure, sincere love that our parents and grandparents knew was learned from God’s Word.
What is God’s definition of love, and where did it come from? John says in today’s Scripture text, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
Without God in our lives we have no love. Many of us know someone who is unsaved, yet they seem to have love in them. We often mistake affection, infatuation and the lusts of our flesh for true love, but, my friend, make no mistake about it, until you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior you cannot know true love.
God’s love can make the most loving person you know more loving, for he will experience a new love that he has never known before. Inviting Jesus into a rocky marriage can give a marriage that had fallen apart a new love to stand on. Someone who has received God’s love into their heart through Jesus Christ can love people they never thought they could.
True love is only found in Jesus. Through His true love, you can experience new heights of peace and contentment that you thought never existed. Second Corinthians 13:11 says, “Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.” Let’s get back to the true meaning of love and learn to live in God’s peace.
