Treasures Unseen
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
What is it in our lives that holds eternal value? It could be our homes, our nice cars, antique furniture or other material possessions. It could even be a day at the ball game or a night at the opera, but most definitely it is none of the above. According to our Scripture text, all of these things are temporal. It says, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
The things that we cherish so dearly in this life are only ours for a little while. They have never been, nor will they ever be, eternal. They are blessings from God, yet we abuse them and use them for our own honor and glory or for the work of the devil. God wants us to be happy and to enjoy everything we have, but not to the point that we forget Who gave them to us.
The things that hold eternal value in our lives are the things which are not seen. This is our salvation and our joy. It is the ability to trust in God’s Word and live by faith. We have eternal life through the blood of Jesus Christ. These are the only things that have eternal value. They are treasures unseen.
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” This passage of Scripture is the key to understanding the things that are truly eternal in our lives. If comprehended through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, it will erase all thoughts of confusion about what is eternal. What holds the most value in your life, things temporal or things eternal? Are your treasures easily seen by others, or are they treasures unseen?
"God wants us to be happy and to enjoy everything we have, but not to the point that we forget Who gave them to us."
