There Are Many Books That Can Inform But The Bible Can Transform
by Brooke Cason
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:15
"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Romans 12:1&2 "I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
The title to this devotional was on a church sign. I love my drive to the dentist office that I work at because I pass so many churches. Some of which have great, "meaningful" sayings on their signs and some that are very shallow. I think it's sad that I pass so many churches in a 45 mile trip because a lot of them have split off from one another due to the lack of being in "one accord." It's sad that the congregation can't pray through their differences and seek God to stay together. I don't believe it makes God happy to see churches separate. Enough of my soap box and opinion.
Anyway, I was talking to Labron on the phone when I saw this sign. He was at home so I had him to write it down and God immediately gave me these verses to go along with this devotional. We have so many books available to inform us on anything we want to learn or know about, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, history books, non-fiction books, etc. A lot of us spend countless hours throughout the week reading books for enjoyment. I'm guilty of that myself. I've always hated to read until lately. I'm now hooked on a Christian fictional writer. Her books are great, but they don't do anything for me Spiritually. They aren't "TRANSFORMING" my mind and thinking.
The Bible is where we receive our transformation. The Scripture in Romans 12:2 simply tells us to "…be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…" The only way for our mind to stay renewed is by spending time with God through the studying of His Word, prayer, worship, etc. Paul tells us what to do in 2 Timothy 2:15: "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." There is no way to "rightly divide the word of truth" without knowing the Word. There's no way KNOW the WORD without studying and spending time in the WORD!
The Word of God is powerful and transforming. If we dedicated as much time to God as we dedicate to the world, we could make a difference in those around us on our jobs, in our church, in our community, in our family, etc. Try spending more time in the Bible. See what it will do for you. I bet it will TRANSFORM you especially since it says it can.

Thank you Brooke, it's amazing how God works, I have been thinking about how I can "transform my mind". It's true I need to be in "His word" more and out of the secular "words". Hope you are doing well, I love you and think/pray for all of you often. Will you pray for my church, Unity Baptist, Newnan. Our pastor has announced that he will retire at the end of the year. I am praying for "one accord" for our congregation. There is a lot of "unrest" if you know what I mean.
