Scripture Reading: Hebrewa 12:2

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

A virgin betrothed to Joseph was chosen by God to give birth to a special Son. This young woman would conceive through a miraculous virgin birth, and Joseph would be forced to take her out of town for the safety of her and the child. Joseph knew the shame and accusations that would come against Mary at the news of her pregnancy.

They journeyed to Bethlehem where Mary gave birth to a special Son, the One who would bring redemption to “whosoever” will. The Son of God, the Savior of the world had come to redeem mankind and restore fellowship between God and man.

Sin had contaminated the heart of man beginning with Adam in the garden. Only this Son, the Savior, could pay sin’s debt. The reason the Son of God was born of a virgin birth is because He was the spotless, sinless Lamb, the Savior of the world. Our Scripture text states that, “.... for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The Son was born in a manger, but is now sitting on a literal throne. On this Christmas Day and every day, let us rejoice that we have an ever loving Savior sitting at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for all who believe. May we all pray for those who do not know Him as Savior! The greatest gift we can offer anyone who is not a born again believer is the gift of Jesus, the eternal gift of salvation.
