Scripture Reading: I Kings 18:41

“And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.”

Perhaps you are fighting drought and doubt in your life, and it appears that the rain will never come. Maybe you have been able to identify with the nation of Israel and their gods. Perhaps you have realized you have a few false gods in your own life.

In your idol worship, you have found yourself pulled between the opinions of your god and the One true God. You are thirsty, but not even the dew is available to you. You are crying out to your idol gods, but no response has come. You find yourself to be living under the umbrella of the world, your flesh and satan. You are suffering from hopelessness and spiritual dehydration. Just like the worshippers of Baal, you have laid your sacrifice on the wood, cried out, prayed, danced around and even self-inflicted wounds hoping to hear the sound of rain, yet not one drop has fallen.

We all need the hope of rain in our dry and barren times. The abundance of rain that Elijah prayed down was a symbol of God's acceptance and restoration of Israel.  However, our sin, circumstances and idolatry have stripped us of showers of blessings. What must we do to receive fire from Heaven and rain for the drought? Our answer lies in the example of Elijah and is found in our Scripture text which says, “…Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.”

It is time we cry out to God and take shelter under His umbrella of restoration. The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Elijah is the only God we need to be worshipping. He is calling us today to let Him be God in our life and in our circumstances. He knows we are thirsting, and He is our living water. He will give us showers of blessings and restitution in our relationship with Him. Under God’s covering, there is hope and eternal security for us.
