Reflecting His Image
by Labron Cason
Scripture Reading: Malachi 3:3
“And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”
I hear so many people make the statement “I just do not understand how a loving and merciful God allows us to go through troubles and trials.” Friends, I want you to know that God has your best interest in mind. Has it ever occurred to you that nothing has ever “occurred” to God? He is the Heavenly Refiner.
Have you ever studied to learn how long the refiner lets the gold and silver stay in the crucible? The refiner lets the gold and silver simmer until he sees his own reflection. That silver or goldsmith allows the fluid to bubble and boil in the crucible. When the slag rises to the top, he removes it by skimming off the dross. He continues this process until he looks down and sees his reflection in the silver or gold.
You may wonder what God is doing in your life, why it hurts so badly and why it is happening the way it is. You may ask why the valley is so deep, the river so wide, and the mountain so high. Our Scripture text reminds us why. It says, “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”
Just as the impurities are removed from the gold and silver, God is working to remove the dross in your life. When He is finished, you will be conformed to the image of His dear Son. God has a plan and a purpose as you go through the refiner’s fire.
