Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:18

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

As we close our in-depth study of the weapons of our warfare, this piece of armor cannot be found listed in any other tools of the Bible as a piece of the whole armor of God. God revealed to me that it is the most vital tool in keeping our other weapons cleaned and sharpened. It is the seventh weapon of our armor. The number seven in Scripture represents spiritual maturity.

I realize that few other Bible scholars list prayer as part of the whole armor of God. I do because it is our source of communication with our Commander in Chief. Without His instruction and commands, we will not know when to use the rest of our armor.

Prayer is the key to both knowing when to use our weapons and when to activate our faith and confidence in them. This piece of armor forms a close relationship between us and our Commander in Chief. We receive His strength through prayer, and through it we move from being defensive into being offensive in our battle with the enemy.

Paul, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, chose to end his words about our armor with our Scripture text, which says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

God has given us everything we need to win the battle and fight the warfare. God is your Commander in Chief, and He knows your level of maturity. He has confidence in you, and has called you into His service. He also knows your weaknesses in combat. He wants to train you up in those areas so that you become a mighty warrior. As God’s soldier, what does He want you to charge the enemy with?
