Opportunity for Growth
by Dan Robinson
Scripture Reading: II Peter 3:18
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
I hope that we are beginning to understand more about what God expects from us as His children as we move farther into the spiritual indicators. Today’s indicator is when we view everything that comes our way as coming from God, we will begin seeing trials and temptations as opportunities for growth. Our Scripture text teaches us “that we must grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord.”
God allowed a lot of things to come into Brenda’s and my life before we understood our opportunity for growth. The things we were calling catastrophic, God was using to show Himself to us. I would not trade any of the trials we faced for what we learned about God as He brought us through each one in His own way. We came to realize that God is always in control no matter how bad life seems, and that He loves us and will take care of us. We have grown not only spiritually, but our marriage is stronger as well.
Nothing can touch us without permission from God. If He allows circumstances in our life, either He will lift us up or we will lift Him up. Our circumstances will either be a blessing for us or glory for God. It is time for us to get back to the basics, realizing that Jesus loves us in spite of our circumstances. We must also accept the fact that we have problems that are sometimes out of our control. If we will learn to stay focused on Him in the midst of our trying times, He will take care of them and bring us through. When we are not focused on Him, He can still take care of them and give us blessings. We must learn that all our temptations and pains are opportunities for growth.
