The Name of Jesus
by Dr. Brenda Robinson
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:10-11
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
The more I study the Word of God, the more convinced I am of God’s omnipotence, His presence to all who believe. He wants to be the same God to you and me that He was to Moses, Sarah and the Israelites. He gave us access to His power and His provisions when He sent Jesus to the cross.
If we go back and study the Old Testament miracles, we will see that for every situation God represented His character through His many different names. For example, the name Jesus comes from the Hebrew name Yeshua which means “God the Savior.” Therefore we know that the name Jesus represents Christ as our Savior. Our Scripture says, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” As we study just a few of the names of God, we must remember a very important fact. God’s name is a name that represents blessing, not a curse.
- El Shaddai means the Almighty God.
- Jehovah-Jireh means the Lord will provide.
- Jehovah-Repheka means the Lord is Healer.
- Jehovah-Nissi means the Lord is Conqueror.
- Jehovah-Shalom means the Lord is Peace.
Which name do you need God to be in your life right now?
