The Mind

Scripture Reading: James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Satan loves to play "mind ball." Your mind is his playing field. He will throw things at you at very fast speeds at times, but sometimes he tricks us with a slow curve ball. He's very sneaky. He knows he can't get to our souls so he tries to distract us with very mind appealing things such as:

  • Material possessions
  • Clothes
  • Money
  • Other men/women
  • Lustful attractions
  • Time consuming projects

This list could go on and on.

If he can get our attentions focused on things of this world, then we won't have the time for "KINGDOM WORK." He knows our weaknesses and that's his first place to strike. He doesn't stop once he get a "hand up" on things. He'll continue to find other weaknesses to distract us and he strikes again until he has you down so low that he begins to think he's finally won a victory! He's so wrong. If you are a child of God, the battle was won at Calvary with our Lord, Jesus Christ giving His life so that we may be able to obtain eternal life. He wishes that for us all.

Let's name some of our distractions:

  • Summer is coming: weekends at the lake are looking good. We'll get back into church when the weather turns cold.
  • Our kids want name brand stuff and we can't really afford it but we buy it anyway by charging it and trying to figure out a way to pay for it later.
  • Time consuming daily tasks of life.
  • Jobs: total commitment to our jobs and not true commitment to God.

This list could go on and on. I'm sure you could add to it. Feel free to share your distractions with us. You're not alone. We all have them.

Confession is good for the soul!

He does sneak in and gets in my mind before I even realize it...but I dont have the lake problem or even the kids wanting the expensive things Kayla just takes whatever I get her she is the most layed back kid Ive seen and Dakota dont care he is a guy..so I quess my distraction would be coming home and hitting the tube and kicking back in my leather recliner and having my computer on my lap and getting on fb, that can be a good thing if u only get on for a few but I have to admit I have been on for loooonnnngggg time then it was late and before I know it its bedtime and I am to tired to read and study God's Word....So I have really been trying to cut back on the t.v. I have quit watching so many shows and cut my time on FB each nite...What it needs to be is me studing God's Word then if I have time left b4 bed then watch tv and surf the net......very good devotion Brooke..
