For the Love of Money

Scripture Reading: I TIMOTHY 6:10

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Many people in today’s society make getting rich their main goal in life.  They strive to work their way up the corporate ladder thinking that having a lot of money will bring them happiness. While singing “Oh how I love Jesus,” they are concentrating on their job and how they can manipulate their way to success.  Soon, work calls for them to work late every night.  They miss church on Wednesday night.  Then they start getting called in on Saturdays and miss out on family time. Before they know it, they either have to work on Sunday, or they take Sunday to rest.

God blesses us with an education and the knowledge to receive a good education, but He does not expect us to choose work or sickness over Him. It is perfectly alright to have a wonderful job that pays well, but we should not put our jobs before God.  Even if we are called to ministry work, it is still a job that can become sin if we concentrate solely on the job itself and not on Him.  We must set aside time for God daily. He deserves our attention. After all, He is constantly giving us His attention. Even when we do not call on Him, He is there.

Our Scripture says, “the love of money is the root of all evil,” not money itself. God provides and blesses us with jobs and money to live each day. Let us re-evaluate our thinking and let us live for God and repent for the love of money.

Brooke this is so very true. I am still in school, but that seem to be the one thing they want to drill in our heads is that the most important thing in life is to make the top dollar. There is no amount of money that could ever take the place of God and family time. Sometimes we let the world tell us different.

Samantha, You are so right. The world does want us to concentrate on $$$$$. I have family that is that way. They don't understand why I choose to serve God and live by faith instead of cleaning teeth 5 days a week, having my weekends to enjoy my family and have some down time, but my rewards are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! They would just have to be called by God to understand why I choose the life that I live. This world isn't all about $ to me, although it would be nice to have both, but God hasn't allowed me to have both and that's fine. I"LL GO WITH GOD not the world. In Christ, Brooke
