Scripture Reading: John 10:10a
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:”
We must acquaint ourselves with our enemy. We must learn his tactics, his personality and his weapons. His tactics are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life.
Using these tactics, the enemy will engage us in battles of:
- Social Acceptance
- Impressing or being impressed
- Being influenced by our peers
- Doing whatever it takes to fit in
- Worldly Success
- Houses
- Cars
- Securities
- Finances
- Career Goals
- We make our career our god
- We take credit from God, and we give it to ourselves
- We feel successful
- We feel we have accomplished something on our own
- Physical Appearance
- Peer pressure from the media as well as co-workers
- Dissatisfaction with God’s creation
- Pressure to change ourself
As we fall prey to these tactics, we begin to recognize the personality traits of our enemy. John 10:10 defines them for us. It says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” Satan’s personality is defined in the three simple words steal, kill and destroy.
