Scripture Reading: II Kings 4:26

“Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her,Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.”

To completely understand this devotional, you may want to read II Kings 4:8-37. This Shunammite woman loved God so much that she prepared a place in her home for Elisha, the man of God, so that he would have a place to lay his head and to study.  Elisha wanted to give her something in return for her hospitality.  He asked his servant “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.” She did not ask him for a child, but he wanted to grant her with a son.  She told the man of God not to lie to her.  She could not see how she could bare a child.  She did not want her hopes built up for nothing.  She conceived and bare a son just as Elisha told her she would.

When her son grew old enough, he went to work in the field with his father and got a bad headache. He then died in his mother’s lap.  She knew what to do. She ran straight to the man of God. She did not share with anyone what had happened; she just sought out to find Elisha. Her reply to everyone she came in contact with was, “It is well.”  She knew her son was dead and she could say, “It is well.” When she reached Elisha, she fell at his feet and he knew that she was in deep distress. The Lord had not revealed it to Elisha ahead of time because it was all a part of His plan to prove to her, “It is well”.

There are times when the Lord will not reveal what He is doing in your life. Are you faithful enough in these times to simply say, “It is well?” Share it tomorrow as you journal.
