I Will Come To You
by Brooke Cason
Scripture Reading: John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Have you ever been through hard times such as a death, divorce, miscarriage, etc.? Did you feel like nothing anyone could say was very comforting? I have been there. I felt so alone. Although surrounded by many people and much affection, nothing seemed to take the pain away. I could feel myself slipping into a deep depression. I had nowhere else to turn but to God. That is what He wanted all along.
There are many promises throughout the Word of God. I stand on many of them and call them out on a daily basis. The main two are Hebrews 13:5 which says, “. . . I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee,” and the other comes from our Scripture text in John 14:18 which says, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
We as Christians have forgotten that the true “Comforter” is the Holy Spirit. We turn to worldly things such as money and possessions for comfort, when all we need to do is fall to our knees and pray that God would send His Holy Spirit down to comfort our hearts and provide us with peace. I am a firm believer that with the Holy Spirit as our Comforter, we can have peace through any storm.
What do you need the Comforter to do for you? Just surrender it to Him today.

Brooke, I really needed to read this devotional today. As you know, I've really had a hard time over the last year and a half. I've really had to turn to God more than ever before for comfort. Yes, I can go to friends for some comfort, but there is only so much a friend can do for you. Only God can tryly fill that void.
