I Have Chosen You

Scripture Reading: John 15:16

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

The Scripture text teaches us that Jesus chose us.  Chosen means “to select, make choice, choose out.” It even says He ordained us. This means that He not only saves us, but in the original Greek, Jesus advises, appoints, commands, purposes and settles us. We, as His chosen people, are to go and bring forth fruit.  The phrase “bring forth fruit” literally means to pluck, to seize, to take by force, to catch or pull.

This is a beautiful event described here. If you are saved, it means Jesus personally picked you to be a fruit producer. If you are not saved, Jesus is choosing you now. The Bible says in II Corinthians 6:2, “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” It does not say today or tomorrow; “now” is the word. We cannot be fruit producers until we have been chosen and then make Jesus our choice. We cannot receive Christ when it is convenient for us or when we need His help.

How will you know when you are being chosen? You may have guilt about your sin – a realization and acknowledgement that you are a sinner. You may have a tugging on the inside that Jesus does not reside in your heart. You may suddenly realize there is a void in your life that nothing you have tried can permanently fill. The conviction may cause a fear that if you die, you know you would not enter Heaven. Often, we overlook these indicators as normal battles that we all face. Are your indicators those of a born-again Christian or an unbeliever? Do you know without a doubt God has chosen you?
