Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Knowing our responsibilities doesn’t make it easy to fulfill them, but God is worthy of our love, praise and undivided attention. The joy of fulfilling our responsibilities in Christ is found in 2 Corinthians 4:16. “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” Each day we stand for the Gospel’s sake, we will be renewed, through either suffering or excitement, with the strength of God through the Holy Spirit.

We must not allow the lust of our flesh to take precedent over our responsibilities for God. Hebrews†12:6 tells us that there is a price to pay for this. “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” We must also be cautious against the snares of the devil. Our adversary will give us many alternatives to fulfilling our responsibilities. Satan takes our wants, desires, and weaknesses and uses them to distract us from serving God, and he’s very subtle about doing it. Second Corinthians 11:3 says, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” Today's Scripture text says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." God can protect us from the enemy and show us how to overcome the desires of our flesh so that we can fulfill our responsibilities.

Jesus faithfully and willingly fulfilled His responsibility as He hung on the cross. Let’s become responsible Christians, and let’s honor our Lord and Savior each day by serving Him no matter what the cost.
