Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 1:11

Nehemiah said in today's Scripture text, "O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer." Nehemiah needed to get in touch with heaven, and God heard and answered Nehemiah’s prayer.

Nehemiah had overcome any doubts about the proper way to pray. He lived with the blessed assurance and confidence that God hears all of our prayers, whether they be systematic or spontaneous. Nehemiah had an inner security that his prayer life was both disciplined and powerful. What secrets can we learn from him?

Before we study Nehemiah’s prayer life, I’d like to give you the seven elements that have proven to be victorious in my own prayer life: repentance, praying with faith, praise, thanksgiving, specific prayers, dedication to prayer, and discipline in prayer. As we study Nehemiah’s prayer life, apply these principles, as well as those you’ll learn, to your own prayer life. See for yourself what a difference it makes when you, like Nehemiah, have inner security about the effectiveness of your prayer life.

"God hears all of our prayers."
