Scripture Reading: Phillipians 4:11

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Paul says in today’s Scripture, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Can you say that about your life?

I challenge you to take a look at some of your greatest complaints about life. Where did you come up with the expectations that have not been met? Perhaps you are unhappy with yourself; you feel like you have no worth. You can’t see any future direction for your life.

The truth is that you have been deceived by Satan. You are looking for a fantasy life that does not exist. Your discontentment with your husband can’t be fulfilled by some formula that the happy couple on TV prescribed for a perfect marriage. Being the center of attention will not satisfy that emptiness in your life either. We have always based our happiness on our material possessions, outward appearances and our social and professional lives. This is our greatest hindrance in learning to be content with what we have.

When we long for possessions, power and prestige, we become weak in the flesh. Satan uses this weakness against us by deceiving us into temptation. First Corinthians 10:13 says, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” Temptation can be overcome, but better still it can be avoided.

Let’s learn, like Paul, to be content with what God has given us.

"When we long for possessions, power and prestige, we become weak in the flesh."

You are so right. Things, more things, newer improved things. Non of which will bring the joy that only Jesus can fill. Satan tries to confuse us, and distract us from the true joy that is within us as Christians. The non-christians will never be at pease and never find joy without Jesus. Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit and refused to be controlled by circumstances. We can tap into that strength also, call on Jesus. The strength found in God is greater that anything satan can dream up to confuse us. Please pray that I will use the strength of the Holy Spirit inside me to guide me. Love you
