Burn Your Ship Continued
by Dan Robinson
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-2
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

hat ship in your life do you need to burn in order to eliminate being defeated? This is the question we asked in our previous devotional. Today, we see from our Scripture text that we “are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses” who went through the same uncertain terrains and faced enemies for the cause of righteousness that we find ourselves facing. These people, like Cortez, eliminated all possibility of retreat. They burned the ships of their past, the world, and their sin and pressed forward by faith in spite of the adversities they faced. They had no choice but to succeed.
This great cloud of witnesses laid aside every weight and sin and did not look back. They looked unto Jesus, the author and finisher of faith. They succeeded and won the race. If we are going to run the race and win, we too must identify the ships in our life that have become weights and sin. We must be willing to burn those ships, refusing to look back. Our only option is to move forward and be successful in our mission of God’s Kingdom work.
As an evangelist, I challenge each one of you to burn your ships with joy and bear your cross daily that others may see your confidence in and faithfulness to Christ.
