Scripture Reading: Mark 10:48

"And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me."

Mark 10:46-52 "And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way."

The religious crowd was warning blind Bartimaeus to keep silent but he cried even louder. "Thou son of David, have mercy on me." They were trying to keep him quiet. They didn't want him to make a scene, but he didn't listen to them. He knew that Jesus could give him sight and make him whole. He had the faith that it took to get the miracle performed. These religious people around him didn't want him to disturb Jesus, but he wasn't a disturbance to Jesus. Jesus wanted to see the faith that Bartimaeus had.

Have you ever been Spiritually blind? All of us have been at some point or another. Even if you are saved, you were once blind. Satan will tell you to wait, or perhaps you thought you were saved as a child. You've been a church member for years, but you've realized that you are lost. You think people will look down on you because you've claimed salvation, but you shouldn't be worried about what they think. They may be in the same position as you but are too ashamed to admit it. That's the way satan wants you to feel. He wants you to feel ashamed, but you don't have to be. Don’t worry about others and what they think because they can't get you in to Heaven. Only salvation can! Salvation is the most important decision that you'll ever make. You have to be lost before you can be saved.

If Bartimaeus would have worried about what the crowd thought of him that day, he wouldn't have cried louder to show his faith in Jesus and his sight would not have been restored. We have to realize that religious people surround us on a daily basis. They are full of FALSE persuasions and they will try to lead you in the wrong direction. They act like Christians, but the things that they say don't line up with the Word of God exactly. That's why it's important to know the Word for yourself and know His voice when He speaks. We don't have to listen to those around us unless we know what they are saying is lining up with God's Word.

We see in these verses that Bartimaeus' sight was given to him by Jesus. Jesus is the only way to salvation, and He immediately gives it as you receive it!

Brooke, I loved this devotional today! I can really really relate with the blind man in these verses. Being physically blind myself since birth, I knows what it feels like to have people look down on you. I know what it feels like to have people to tell you that you can't do something when you know the Lord has directed you to do it. Not only do I write devotionals (which you receive) but I also now have a blog. Yes, I'm stepping out on faith, but I believe that whatever God directs me to do, He'll give me what I need to get it done. Thank you for this encouragement! Love you!
