Scripture Reading: Genesis 22:9

“And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.”

I have read and studied the life of Abraham and Isaac from every angle imaginable throughout the years. I am fascinated at God’s perfect plan through this seed line. This family line is the one in which you and I should pattern our measure of faith and our righteousness.

The puzzling thing to me in this family bond is the obedience that Isaac had toward his father Abraham. Why was he bound to the altar? God finally revealed to me this principle.

In the spiritual application of this event, we are challenged to spiritually bind our children with the truth of God’s Word, always being attentive to their behavior and lifestyle choices. God calls us to raise them in the ways of the Lord. They will not always heed to or appreciate our correction, but someday they will appreciate and thank us for our love and protection for their lives.

When they are young and still living in our home, we must love them, spend quality time with them and raise them in the principles of God’s Word. It is vital that we teach them the importance of participating in the local church assembly. We should shield them from things that do not feel right in our spirit, and examine who they are choosing as friends. As we give them rules to live by, we teach them that life is not handed to them on a silver platter.

When our children are grown, we are still held accountable to keep them on the right track. We do this by reiterating the principles we bestowed upon them as children and making ourselves available to their needs and times of counsel. Ask God to show you where you need to bind your children and get busy with the process.
