What a Fast Paced Weekend
by Brooke Cason
The weekend got off to a rocky start. We were supposed to pull out on Thursday night as soon as I got home from working at the dentist office to head to Pennsylvania. The bus had been at the shop for a few days and we thought they were going to be through with all the repairs and servicing it, but we got a call from Dan stating that the bus would not be going. Labron then got on-line to find Brenda and me some plane tickets to the nearest airport to Fayetteville, PA. Brenda and I were dropped off at the Atlanta airport on Friday morning aruond 7:30 AM after leaving home at 6:00 AM. Labron and I said our goodbyes and off to register and get our tickets Brenda and I went. Keep in mind I have only flown one other time...to Africa. I didn't have to know how to do anything in an airport. Luckily Brenda has flown some and knew the basic direction to point us in. Our first flight was supposed to leave at 9:00 AM. At about 9:15, the pilot came across and said that the plane would not be leaving due to a minor sensor light problem and that as soon as it was fixed the plane would take flight. We finally left around 10:15 AM. About 30 minutes into our flight and 45 minutes away from our destination in Baltimore, MD, the pilot came back across the speaker and said that the plane was having to turn around and go back to Atlanta. I told Brenda that by the time we made it to Baltimore our connecting flight would already be gone. There was a couple sitting beside us and overheard our conversation. They lived in the same town that we were supposed to be flying to to meet the ladies from the church that we were doing the retreat for. We continued to talk for a while. They asked where we were from and I said, "close to Rome, GA." The husband said, "we were just in Cedartown visiting some family of ours." I was like, "that's where we live. Who is your family?" He told me who his uncle was and it was a man that my mom used to go to church with. I knew all of his family that was from Cedartown. That was another God moment. This couple offered to carry us to the town that we were headed to if we missed our flight.
We finally boarded another plane in Atlanta and headed to Baltimore. We reached Baltimore about 2 hours past our boarding time for the other flight. The Air Tran people would not help guide us in any direction on how to fix the problem of missing our flight. They said it was not their problem. That made me upset. I could not figure out how if their plane was torn up and made us late to the airport how that wasn't their problem. Oh well! We finally found where we needed to go to see a representative about our flight from Baltimore to Hagerstown, MD. The Air Tran people sent us all the way back out to the front of the airport...so now we have to go back through security AGAIN! The Cape Air representative was so helpful. He held the last flight for us and delayed it until we could get on the plane. We had 15 minutes...we thought...to register, go through security and check our bags. When we got to our terminal to board the plane, it had been delayed for 30-45 minutes. ANOTHER DELAY! This trip was getting better by the minute. We knew that God had something wonderful in store for the retreat because satan was fighting us all the way!
We were watching out the window when this plane...or propellar plane came up. This was an 8 passenger plane. I was scared to death. I started laughing and saying, "I'm not getting on that thing!" Brenda said that I had no choice. I wasn't liking her at that moment :-) We got on and I had to ask if I could sit up front in the co-pilot seat so that I didn't get motion sick. I was so proud of myself. I talked myself out of being sick the whole time. I took pictures and videos of the whole flight. It was actually great! I loved being able to see things from "the top of the world."
We finally made it around 4:00 PM to our last airport for the day. We made it to the retreat center by 5:00 PM and started speaking at 6:30 PM. It was a wonderful retreat. Hearts were changed and lives were touched! Tears were shed and people shared testimonies from their past to present. It was amazing.
We had to leave immediately after Brenda got through speaking on Saturday. We were headed back to this "ONE MAN AIRPORT" in Hagerstown, MD. Same plane, but not a great flight. There was so much turbulance...that's after the pilot said that the flights had been very smooth all day. I had to sit in the back of the plane since the flight was full. I was feeling sorry for the lady in front of me. I seriously thought I was going to be sick. I made it though. My nerves were shot by the time we landed back in Baltimore.
We flew from Baltimore to Atlanta. These three Marines were sitting right in front of us. The language was awful the whole flight. By the time we made it to Atlanta, I wanted to wash their mouths out with soap or slap them one. I was so tempted to ask the guy sitting beside me if I could borrow one of his earphones to put in my ear and watch some cartoons with him. I didn't though.
In Atlanta, we had a 2 hour lay over. Then we boarded ANOTHER plane and headed to Asheville, NC to meet up with Labron and Dan. They drove to the airport to get us and we headed to our hotel. It was some kind of "LEAF" festival in Bryson City, NC this past weekend so bikers were everywhere. There was one...only ONE...hotel room left. It was so sweet of the people at the church to find this room for us. We stayed there over night; sang for their service the next morning at Cold Springs Baptist Church. We had an awesome service. God was so good to us during the service.
The weekend is not over. We are planned to be at our producer's house on Monday morning in Liberty, SC so we stayed over instead of coming all the way home. We had a very productive day except Brenda was very sick with sinus stuff from being up and down in the air so much over the weekend. She was BAD sick all the way home, but we made it finally around 8:00 PM last night.
What a weekend!
In Christ,
Brooke

Only one word comes to my mind to sum up your adventure, "WoW." I would be lying if I said that parts of this blog didn't CrAcK me up! With such a smooth trip to Florida previously, should have known a 'whammy' was coming~LoL! I am thankful my 'other' family made it off that plane, on the ground, and home-sweet-home safe. In the Bible, He says that He will never leave us or forsake us... Well, I am glad He didn't leave you alone in the airports during the MaNy delays nor while you were in the air in the smallest plane I have ever seen =) What a GrEaT God we serve to sustain you both, be your strength, and to safely get you home! Much love to you all!
The start may have been rough, but the rewards were great!! Oh, When does that cruise start, I'm so ready!!
