We Have an Enemy
by Labron Cason
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:8
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
Our Scripture tells us that we have an enemy and his name is satan. It tells us that we must be sober, or in control. It says to be vigilant. In the original Greek, vigilant means to be watchful, on guard, attentive, alert, cautious, observant and aware.
We may wonder how we have time to watch for all these things with all that is going on in our busy lives. We must realize that it is very important that we stay studied and prayed up.
Verse 7 of James 4 tells us that satan can be resisted. It says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We must submit ourselves to God by serving God with joy in our hearts, studying His Word and believing it, and by putting on the whole armour of God. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Satan has wiles, or schemes, for everyone’s life. Being strong in the Word and faithful to apply its truths to our lives will help us ward off the schemes and tactics that satan has set up for us. Being strong in the Word and being clothed with the whole armour of God equips us to defeat the enemy. Yes, we may have an enemy; but rejoice my friend, for he is a defeated foe.
