Scripture Reading: Genesis 22:11-12

“And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”

The angel of the Lord urgently called out to Abraham while he was on the down stroke with the knife. The Lord had honored this man’s faith and God provided a lamb just as Abraham had promised Isaac He would.

This was about Isaac seeing his father’s faith that would produce the Lamb. Isaac had total confidence in his father’s relationship with God. He wanted to go up and worship with him. He was even obedient to being laid on the wood and bound.

When Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb?” he was simply asking in today’s terms where is Jesus? Isaac’s faith was increased as he watched his father activate his obedience to God. Our children today simply want to see Jesus in their parents. Our children will never understand faith in God if we are not demonstrating it. Children watch everything their parents do. They see us as their god until they come to the age of accountability to understand the One true God.

Isaac would be the see of faith that would carry on from Abraham. We see the blessings roll over into Isaac in Genesis 22:16-17 which says, “....By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.”

A father’s faith is very vital to his children. It will be the foundation of his children’s relationship with God.
