Honduras Mission Trip

Brenda, Angie and Pat returned safely from Honduras on Saturday evening. They had such an amazing time on this mission trip. They were able to minister to women, young girls, children and then families as Pat preached to the entire church on Thursday night. On Thursday morning they all arose early and went into the villages that could only be reached by foot and distributed a bag of rice and corn to each family as they also gave them a Bible and delivered the Gospel that Jesus loves them and He saves. It was heart breaking for them to see how little they had materially (basically nothing). Their homes consisted of dirt floors, walls with plaster and some block. They took many pictures in which Pat will have posted as soon as he can get them edited and loaded onto our website. This will give you a better insight on what all they did and saw.

Brenda would like to share a story about a young boy that she met while on her trip. "When he was approximately ten years old, his whole entire family was murdered before his eyes. They were moving toward him and his baby sister to kill them next. He told his sister to lay down and play dead. He then lay on top of her to cover her entire body as they stabbed him 17 times throughout his entire body. I got to meet this young man as we visited the children's home in the mountains of Honduras. He is now 16 years old and I also got to meet his sister in which he was willing to give his own life for. They were the only two survivors of this incident. They left him for dead, but as he was found and taken to the hospital not one stab wound entered an organ. ONLY GOD! Yes, he still bears the physical scars and the mental wounds, but as I shook his and his sister's hands, they both smiled at me with the love of Jesus and joy in their heart that they were alive. I will never forget this trip and I want to thank everyone who made it possible for us to go and minister to these people who are starving for the Gospel and walked for miles to get to the church every day. The crowds grew with each day. Word of mouth was spreading fast and more people were coming to receive the love of Jesus that the others were taking home.

The little children doubled in number as Susan Kell, the VBS teacher from Steele, AL, taught them as I taught the women and young girls. She was amazed at how appreciative and disciplined these children were. We all left knowing that America and God's people must humble themselves. We all have a new respect for the Word of God where it commands us to seek His face. II Chronicles 7:14 says, 'If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways' then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.' I must confess in my years of serving the Lord and living in America, I always have had the mentality that regardless of where you live and your circumstances that you could always better yourself. After this trip, I will never have that same mentality. These people do not have the means to better themselves. They're truly doing the best they can with what they have to work with. They are not lazy and are willing to do whatever it takes to make ends meet and feed their family. I will be going back, not out of sympathy but out of a command from God."

I hope that you have enjoyed reading about Brenda's perspective of the trip. We are preparing to head out again. We fly out tomorrow for Scotland. We are so excited about this trip as well. We can't wait to see what God will do. Please be in much prayer for New Desire and our safety.

In Christ,
Brooke
