The Common Christian

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:44-45
“And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.”
The early church in the book of Acts was a group of people who had witnessed the many signs and wonders of the Apostle’s doctrine. The more they saw, the more they reverenced their leaders and God.
The Scripture text says “all that believed were together and had all things common.” It then goes on to tell how they responded to what they knew could only be proven as the work of God Himself. Their response to this is amazing. In verse 45, they were so inspired and filled with faith that they all went out, sold their possessions and parted them with all men as every man had need.
This is a great example of what we should be doing today as a body of believers. Can you see meeting with your local assembly on Sunday morning and everyone bringing all of their possessions and selling them? This was the heart of the early church. No one told or commanded them to do this. It was the inward nature of Christ in them. In those days, it was simply the heart of a common Christian to sell all he had and share with others so that no one had lack.
This system put everyone on a level playing field. It destroyed the system of big I’s and little you’s. Oh God, give me the heart of a common Christian.
